Episode 19, Rehabitation, kicks off with talk of the virtues of country living and then the virtues of escaping it when it’s trying to kill you. They talk Dutch atrocities, whether Jay being an awful fisherman = failed masculinity and baseball cards before Top of the Hour kicks in and they get serious about R Kelly and personal issues. Jay gives us a lil rundown of what he’s got going on, they talk Boogie Cousin’s controversial decision and Mike brings in Marc Maron to support his disdain for kiddie culture. Mike and Jay get real-ish about addiction and what lies beneath, talk right-wing warriors, keeping sex stuff out of the studio and then just sex stuff. Episode 18 is a clips episode gathering unheard snippets from episodes 5, 9, 10, 11 and 12, most of which feature guests from this season who we just can’t let go. It opens with Mike and Jay talking Jimmy Fallon, history and a depression blog before we get more in depth with a travel story from the Don’t Be Mad dudes, the Lasers explain why they wouldn’t rent the studio out for a certain sexual soiree and everyone discusses basketball. Moving on we hear the Lasers and Up for Discussion hosts discuss Epic Meal Time’s prime, what loons are and how to tell a good church from an ok one. Mike and Jay discuss weed strains and prices, the up and coming weed industry and how to deal with drug freak outs (you’re welcome kids). The Lasers and Don’t Be Mad dudes discuss why the Raptors can’t face Lebron and the problems with the Toronto roster (Demar Derozen is a bum) before the Lasers and Up for Discussion talk/laugh racehorse names and then sitcoms, more specifically Frasier. Next up, Son Raw details why Beyonce leaving Jay Z would have been good for the culture before Mike asks Son Raw and Jay why no one cared about Kelis’ abuse allegations against Nas and they talk abuse in entertainment as a whole. Finally, Nick Brutus Grass talks why twitter fights >>> facebook ones, Canadian culture being at an all time high and his ideas as to why Kanye is being a dick.

In episode 10 (already!) of season 2 the Lasers welcome the hosts of the Up for Discussion podcast Tom and Kate for a pretty funny time. They play a game where Tom and Kate workshop names for fictional characters that the Lasers developed and then discuss dads. They examine the flimsy phenomenon of signatures before kicking off Top of the Hour and answering some serious questions. They talk about traffic induced grumpies, microwaves as old technology, guinea pigs (Tom’s more specifically) and Jay ruining hot tubs. They play a game where they rank various bears in honour of Up for Discussion’s logo before Tom pitches a time consuming podcast idea and they close out with talk of marijuana and inevitably getting too high.

Episode 9 of season 2 welcomes the hosts of the Don’t Be Mad podcast, so it’s kind of like (podcast) squared. They start off by talking fraternities, where the Don’t Be Mad guys school the Lasers on university life, and the group picks sides on using coasters and Jay shares a sad(?) story that involves sex and christmas.  They discuss sexual proclivities, expanding personal horizons, and then the unfortunate turn of events that is Bill Cosby. The Lasers introduce a new game, Top of the Hour, where everyone picks a random question and gives their best reply and they explore real and imagined hurdles to beach resorts. The group breaks NDG down into parts and the Don’t Be Mad dudes share their hopes and dreams for their platform and teach the Lasers about anime. They close out by discussing cartoon sex, naturally.

Episode 5 is all about what’s going on in new music, rap and otherwise, and Mike’s disenchantment with the state of art - it’s dead (!)(?)(,)(.) he says, while Jay argues that he is in fact himself art and alive(?). To get the stuff started each Laser brings forth 10 songs that they listen to and appreciate and sometimes shit on. Jay explains the cause for his raspy voice and Mike and Jay tell rabbit stories, each one sadder than the last. Mike brings up Sean Penn’s new book and the Lasers laugh at his horrible writing, ridden with ridiculous alliteration that proves he’s insane. They close out the episode with talk on the legalization of weed, whether it can make you go crazy (lol), and why some people can’t handle the stuff and then freestyle an ad for their instagram (go follow!).

“The Cod Squadcast” is part 6 in Lasers on the Ride’s Multiverse series. It starts with the Lasers identifying the different members of the Cod Squad with varying degrees of success before they examine SJP’s marriage with Matthew Broderick. The group finishes things off with a wild take on the inner workings of the squad before examining rather (too) closely whether they’d get with Ariel.

COVERFraudpplaudcastFINAL.png

ayyyyy activity! Fraud Applausecast is part 1 of 10 in a little series we’re referring to as the Multiverse - not season 1 but not yet season 2, it’s just a little snack in the meantime. Jay, Mike and KC break down what exactly constitutes fraud applause, when it best applies, and what it sounds like. As its usefulness is debated, the group coins the term ‘moguana’ and laughs. It’s good to be back yall, it is goooooood to be back. Season 2 on its way!

Songs

Sabrina Claudio - Belong to You

Lil Uzi Vert - Right Now

The Grammy Family, episode 47 of Lasers on the Ride, kicks off with talk of the recent face punching spree sweeping St Henri and the Lasers receiving real Grammy noms for imaginary work. The conversation turns quickly to masturbation before they discuss Kanye West’s emotional state and how to process one’s feelings for one’s idols. Jay gives a bad rendition of a proposal he witnessed and they discuss fighting kangaroos, some buff and some less buff. Mike shares a motivational tool his past self used to keep his present self accountable and the Lasers discuss certain changes they might have wanted to have instituted in 2016.  KC closes the stuff out with a freestyle, you’re welcome and merry christmas.

In s01e44 the Lasers welcome Karma Atchykah, rapper/music businessman from Montreal and representative for Fool’s Gold member Shash’U. He breaks down his current situation and what he’s got going on before the Lasers get into christmas mode and plan a secret santa. Jay hands out a few television treatments for Karma to flex upon and the crew talks buff kangaroos pre-viral-kangaroo-video.  Karma speaks on a few of his current projects and gives boss advice (quantity over quality my dude he says) and recalls some lame jobs. He speaks on his Haitian background and the group discusses the cultural usefulness of certain movies and themes. Akil wishes it were ‘92 while Karma shares his modern take on learning and the group discusses the dos, donts and beauty of shrooms consumption while Mike loves LSD. Jay gets too deep about the meaning of the podcast and Karma explains the origins of his name and his thoughts on karma as concept. Jay brainstorms an eggnog business, Akil can’t change won’t change, and Jay cheats on his ol’ mistress nostalgia.

s01e39, Walls Are For Squares, was recorded right outside of the studio, in the great outdoors (of Fattal), full of dog barks and shouting. The episode kicks off pretty abruptly with a pretty petty argument between Akil and Jay about, of all things, coziness (guys it’s crazy) and they debate whose life is worse and who’s gone longer without eating haha. They patch things up and discuss idols before KC talks being stabbed right where they’re sitting and breaks down Haitian food. Akil talks of the time he sat in on Concordia’s hip hop class, Jay drops train riding wisdom, and Mike his masturbation bucket list. They read fanmail for the podcast and talk waterbeds of yore, before a kitty comes up and steals the show.

Episode 12 of Lasers on the Ride, 3/3 in Break-Ups to Wake-Ups, begins with a Bootsy Collins concert live from the speakers of the Lasers’ studio. Mike brings up meditation and Jay relates. The Lasers workshop a story where produce comes alive in shut fridges and then say weird things about dead animals. Mike tells the story of Mason, a gator killing kid with flawed estimation skills, which sets off a flurry of guestimates. KC finishes up the episode with what KC does best: wordplay.

Akil wonders/worries whether he is a negative nancy on the internet but chalks it up to being a gemini. Mike and Jay overindulge and discuss “nature’s instruments” and Akil pushes Daredevil. The Lasers scheme on where to hide the stash. Mike besmirches Karen Civil’s name and Bobby Brown catches his first W in a long time and high praise from the Lasers.

In this episode of Lasers on the Ride, the guys pontificate on Bob Barker’s particular brand of misogyny and then devise a plan to take over the game show industry. Mike shines when Jay raises Carmen Sandiego from the dead. Akil discovers that all new babies are treated like (baby) Jesus himself and then cautions against treating anyone like a monkey. The Lasers attempt to track down oft-forgotten early nineties icon Jamal from Ghost Writer, while Jay and Mike tackle the subject of hunting animals with the aid of drones and how nature can fight back (drone spirit!). In this episode, the dudes from Lasers on the Ride discuss a series of topics, ranging from what exactly constitutes a freestyle nowadays to Brampton Ontario to porn company office dynamics (no Jim and Pam here). The matter of prostitutes arises, more specifically whether a man who frequents a prostitute can do so of sane mind and whether a woman can choose to prostitute herself of free and healthy spirit. Mike attempts to lead Akil to feminism and you decide whether it worked (it didn’t). The topic of why one artist might not support another artist is broached and two theories emerge, along with a bottomless pit of 'nahmeans' into which we fall. Jay poses what Mike concludes to be the hardest, most probing question of all time, and the name Jeremy Roenick is defamed, as it should be.
