They kick things off by getting to know PJ as Mike calls him a little before talking Drake’s influence and beigeness. Moving forward Markings and Spook play Mike’s Hot Take Invitational (First Annual) where they hot take against one another while Mike arbitrates before they talk whether charisma is king in rap and hit Top of the Hour and answer some questions. The gang discusses the Montreal music scene, who’s popping out here and then the problems inherent to art in Quebec before Double P starts his self-portrait and gets deep about his content. Mike and PJPB recall an internet incident they once had over some of PJPB’s work, Markings spills tea about blocked opportunities for Montreal rap radio and Spook shares his major daily needs. The group discusses why Montreal rap struggles to find its place, how to come to terms with front facing camera usage and how they want to be remembered/eulogized before talking top humans on earth. To close out they talk spicy takes on Montreal music and the pursuit of happiness, really.

In s02e20 Mike is joined by Markings, rapper / Artbeat and Loop Sessions affiliate, as co-host as they welcome J.u.D., Montreal DJ / producer / graphic designer / radio host, to the podcast. Things kick off with talk of Rico Nasty and reversal of gender roles, modern dating and dating pros before Mike reveals that he cried all morning, J.u.D. reveals that he’s on a streak of a certain kind and Markings reveals his nightmare. The gang talks just being honest when pursuing sex and how to use lucid dreaming for bad and then top 3s in various mediums. They play Top of the Hour (!) and discuss energy drinks, dream beefs in the Montreal scene, the inner-workings and inner-bias of the local music industry and who gets a seat at the rap table. They talk homebodyness before Mike shits on art again and everyone bemoans quebec’s messed up relationship with black music. J.u.D. gives us some insight into the early days of Alaiz, a local music collective from a few years back, and they talk music distribution outlets, bring back “Fuck it Pick a Record!” from season 1 and then discuss the possible maybe probable re-emergence of the New York rap sound. They close out on maturity’s role in modern matrimony, what streams mean fr fr and what lies ahead for the internet before J.u.D. unveils his self-portrait for our collective enjoyment. The Lasers kick off episode 3 by examining the idiosyncrasies of various police precincts before then eulogizing fallen Montreal music venues and discussing No Doubt’s catalogue. Jay and Mike agree that Timbaland would easily discard Swizz Beatz in a beat battle and Jay recalls a panic attack post edible & Flying Lotus performance. Mike shares his ambivalence come dislike for The Migos and explains the similarities between Portuguese and Romanian (it’s the ziou sound). The Lasers fashion police the Migos on SNL, talk dating Sarah the stripper, and finally determine why rap rock keeps missing the mark. They speak Weezer and then Weezer/Weezy mash-up! and then unfortunate sex endings. They cap it off by exploring the ultimate face-offs in rap and who’s Beatles, who’s Stones.

In episode 38, MARKINGS & Art Things, the Lasers are joined by Markings from the Artbeat collective and the Piu Piu scene.  He speaks on his time as a rapper, meeting KNLO, and the beginnings of the Piu Piu movement and Artbeat. They discuss Akil’s long lost (tshirt) love, an awful poster from a county fair, and pick bottom 5 dead or alive. They dissect the idea of influence in art/music and play Which Diddy Did He do?, the Diddy ghostwriting game. French rap gets a talking to and true schoolers do too.  They play Ken vs Ryu and What Colour is Memph Bleek’s durag? – classics, and then talk the sad state of the Montreal scene in the mid and late aughts.  Markings discusses Guatemalan music of past and Mike finally finds a brother in arms against nostalgia. Mook Life gets a mention and Mike talks producers who can’t see the music for the sample. They play Fuck It! Pick a Record! and Markings talks stepping your goddamn game up, shoe or otherwise, if you want to goddamn get anywhere.

In episode 28 of Lasers on the Ride, Dirtwork’s Scene Tings, Montreal producer/manager/getitdone’r Dirtwork rolls through, bringing artist Treh LaMonte in tow. Dirtwork shares his background, speaks on his time spent in Atlanta and talks his come-up along side Montreal legend Bad News Browns and rapper/friend Magnum. The group discusses influences and influencers and preferences in this music shit. Kanye is broached and they disagree as to the replay value of 808s and Heartbreak. They pick least favorite Kanye songs, talk Kanye’s character, and discuss/laugh as to who would win in Eminem vs Drake. Mike and Dirtwork discuss chords and process in production and agree that Drake didn’t have no goddamn ghostwriters.  The gang discusses Montreal rap, the scene and its peoples, talks its politics and Dirtwork drops knowledge.   They pick worst hat game, talk tucked ears and dad hats, and play what colour is Memphis Bleek’s du-rag? To close out Treh LaMonte talks his first musical influences.

In episode 9 of Lasers on the Ride the guys discuss Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and then keep digging deeper into triangles and get real about the food pyramid. Akil wonders/worries whether he is a negative nancy on the internet but chalks it up to being a gemini. Mike and Jay overindulge and discuss “nature’s instruments” and Akil pushes Daredevil. The Lasers scheme on where to hide the stash. Mike besmirches Karen Civil’s name and Bobby Brown catches his first W in a long time and high praise from the Lasers.

In episode 6 of Lasers on the Ride Akil goes full curmudgeon and the guys welcome extended member of the Lasers, fellow Montreal rapper and old friend KC.  First, Action Bronson producers are dissected and then pitted against one another (Akil gives Harry Fraud the business and Mike laughs). Next, the Lasers talk pubic hair and their respective preferences in that regard, with Akil taking a strong stand on the matter and then making a shocking reveal.  Mike and KC broach the oft-disputed topic of organized religion and then KC reveals the psalms of Ash Ra, which are bonkers crazy. The Lasers move on to lady noses and allegiances are claimed. Akil gets angry again, first at thirst-traps and then at jars. Mike goes deep into his childhood to touch on what everyone is dying to know, his thoughts on broken telephone, and finally Jay reveals his hangover regimen.
