Episode 19, Rehabitation, kicks off with talk of the virtues of country living and then the virtues of escaping it when it’s trying to kill you. Mike and Jay talk actors-cum-musicians and vice versa, men’s accoutrements for anti-ageing and the double-standard when it comes to men and women getting older. They talk Dutch atrocities, whether Jay being an awful fisherman = failed masculinity and baseball cards before Top of the Hour kicks in and they get serious about R Kelly and personal issues. Jay gives us a lil rundown of what he’s got going on, they talk Boogie Cousin’s controversial decision and Mike brings in Marc Maron to support his disdain for kiddie culture. Mike and Jay get real-ish about addiction and what lies beneath, talk right-wing warriors, keeping sex stuff out of the studio and then just sex stuff. To close out, Mike makes the distinction between intelligence and education and gives sage advice regarding change. Laaaasers!

Episode 18 is a clips episode gathering unheard snippets from episodes 5, 9, 10, 11 and 12, most of which feature guests from this season who we just can’t let go. It opens with Mike and Jay talking Jimmy Fallon, history and a depression blog before we get more in depth with a travel story from the Don’t Be Mad dudes, the Lasers explain why they wouldn’t rent the studio out for a certain sexual soiree and everyone discusses basketball. Moving on we hear the Lasers and Up for Discussion hosts discuss Epic Meal Time’s prime, what loons are and how to tell a good church from an ok one. Mike and Jay discuss weed strains and prices, the up and coming weed industry and how to deal with drug freak outs (you’re welcome kids). The Lasers and Don’t Be Mad dudes discuss why the Raptors can’t face Lebron and the problems with the Toronto roster (Demar Derozen is a bum) before the Lasers and Up for Discussion talk/laugh racehorse names and then sitcoms, more specifically Frasier. Next up, Son Raw details why Beyonce leaving Jay Z would have been good for the culture before Mike asks Son Raw and Jay why no one cared about Kelis’ abuse allegations against Nas and they talk abuse in entertainment as a whole. Finally, Nick Brutus Grass talks why twitter fights >>> facebook ones, Canadian culture being at an all time high and his ideas as to why Kanye is being a dick.

It’s getting personaaaal in episode 13, part 1 of a 2 part series chronicling for the most part Jay’s romantic comings and goings which just so happen to have taken a turn for the dramatic recently. They kick off with him sharing the misadventures that led to the end of more than one unhappy union before they talk the merits of couch sleeping and secret air in pull-out couches. Jay examines his choices, what he wants and why, before they hit Top of the Hour and run through some Q&A. Mike shares some insight into Jay’s problems and then into Kyle Korver’s basketball posture before they examine what actually constitutes locker room talk and how to have sex outside in the summer. They make jokes about outdoorsy trips and Mike makes Jay examine the underside of some of his ideas on relationships before KC invents a crazy bed concept.

BENZ ANTOINE Keeps it Reality, s01e42 of Lasers on the Ride, welcomes actor Benz Antoine, currently starring in 19-2 and whose previous roles include Get Rich or Die Trying, Romeo Must Die, and Exit 67, to the podcast. He opens with his approach to acting and breaks down a few of his memorable scenes while Jay gets his giddiness as a super fan out of his system. He generously names some names as to who is naughty and nice out there in Hollywood and talks energy as currency. He shares his transition from rapper to actor, how perseverance and determination are (major) key, and which of his movies have been his biggest hits. Talk moves to basketball and Mike and Benz disagree on Lebron (shoutout Iguodala). The recent election and the hypocrisy of race in the States are explored before Benzel takes on some Denzel trivia. He tells of a pivotal moment in his career (Crabman!) when he trusted his instincts and discovered that he was meant for this shit.

In this episode of LOTR (oh man, like Lord of the Rings – never use this acronym) the Lasers discuss Rihanna vs. Teairra Mari, Rihanna’s many hits and also her general queendom. Jay reflects on hours spent researching elderly strangers’ prescription medication (to what end? you decide) and introduces the idea that the guy in “Limitless” is just taking adderal. Speaking of the elderly (jk jk), Def Squad members are discussed, Mike puts Akil onto Hurricane G and Jay wonders about Erick Sermon’s brush with a window. The Lasers move on to such hot topics as club etiquette (fingers in the face is a no-no), mumblerap and its founding father (none other than 50 Cent, they posit) and BET uncut. The subject of durags emerges, specifically as durags relate to Memphis Bleek and then more generally how they relate to us all. Captain America is painted as hero by Akil, villain by Jay, and as a possible and probable racist by Mike. The Lasers push through and nearly broach country music, but stop just shy and settle for just listing country music artist names. Akil does, however, manage a mean spaghetti western whistle. Mike talks his love for Florida as Akil and Jay reflect on their fear of Florida. Finally, as the conversation winds down, Mike claims to enunciate but doesn’t.
